Tundra

Picture
Tundra is a male Short-eared Owl.  A dog found him in 2010 with a serious injury to his left wing.  It was an old wound, he had survived for a while without being able to fly, despite the dangers of being grounded.

The Short-eared Owl hunts on or near the ground, a fact which helped him to survive with his injury.  His wing had been nearly amputated, the vet cleaned it up and completed the amputation.  It is thought he was a young bird at the time he was injured, so he has adapted well to being an avian ambassador in our education program.
